Review and resolve document conflict versions
Applies to unresolved iCloud version conflicts in infinite documents, vertical documents, and paged notes. The panel appears automatically at relevant times, such as when opening a document. It is not a browser for all historical versions. See the final section for the scope of text documents.
Review each version
- Wait for Loading Versions… to finish.
- Identify versions by thumbnail, modification date, and the name of the device that saved them. The list includes the current version and conflict versions arranged by modification time.
- Select the versions to keep and check their selection marks. Tap again to deselect. You must select at least one version to proceed.
- Do not assume identical thumbnails mean identical content. This panel does not compare every text or handwriting change. If you are unsure, keep all listed versions and open them separately afterward.
What Keep Selected Versions does
Choose Keep Selected Versions, which may show a selected count, and wait for Keeping Versions… to finish.
- If you selected the current version, it remains the original document. Each other selected version becomes a separate copy.
- If you did not select the current version, the first selected version in the list replaces the original document’s contents. Each remaining selected version becomes a separate copy.
- Reviewed conflict versions that you did not select are removed after resolution. Check your selection carefully before proceeding.
Selecting several versions does not merge their handwriting, pages, or text. Afterward, open the original and copies from the library and compare them. Use the appropriate editor’s copy, paste, or page-management tools to combine content manually.
Keep All Versions starts immediately
Keep All Versions selects every version currently listed and immediately starts saving them. It does not wait for another confirmation. If the current version is available, it remains the original document and the other versions become copies.
“All” means the versions that have been loaded and listed. Conflicts arriving during processing are not automatically removed as part of this reviewed group. If the list changes, the app may ask you to review and select again.
Leave a conflict unresolved or retry loading
Close Note leaves the conflict unresolved and closes the document. Dismissing the unresolved panel also leaves the note; it does not ignore the conflict and let editing continue. Selection and closing are temporarily unavailable while versions are being saved. Wait for the result.
If loading fails, takes too long, or finds no available versions, check the network and iCloud status, then choose Try Again. If the versions have changed, review the updated list and select again. After a failure, retain the error details and wait for the list to refresh before deciding what to do. Avoid repeated submissions.
Text documents use a different flow
The multi-selection, Keep All Versions, and Close Note steps above apply to the three canvas or paged document types. Do not apply them directly to text documents. If text differs unexpectedly between devices, preserve the content readable on each device and stop simultaneous editing, then get help with the details.
An extra document after enabling sync again may come from a separate migration process. See Conflict copies after syncing again. For general checks, see Enable iCloud and check sync status.
